About Valérie Boisvert,
M.Ed, RP
Sexual Trauma Therapist for Men in Ottawa | EMDR, IFS & Sex Therapy
Hi, I'm Valérie! I'm a bilingual Registered Psychotherapist (M.Ed., RP #15402) and the owner of Valley of Growth Psychotherapy in Ottawa. I provide trauma-focused psychotherapy and sex therapy in English and French, in person in Ottawa and virtually across Ontario and Quebec.
My practice focuses on supporting survivors of childhood trauma and sexual trauma, with a particular focus on men who have experienced sexual trauma.
I know that reaching out for therapy can be difficult, especially when you're carrying experiences that feel deeply personal, confusing, or difficult to put into words. My goal is to offer a warm, confidential, and non-judgmental space where you can feel respected, understood, and in control of your own process.

Why I Focus on Sexual Trauma in Men
Men who have experienced sexual trauma may carry shame, self-blame, confusion, anger, emotional numbness, or a strong desire to keep what happened private. The impact may also show up in sexuality, intimacy, relationships, trust, body connection, or the way you see yourself.
For some men, therapy may feel difficult precisely because of the pressure to be strong, handle things alone, or avoid showing vulnerability. I want to help challenge that stigma by creating a space where men can talk about sexual trauma without being judged, questioned, or expected to simply "move on".
My interest in this area of work is also informed by personal experience with some of the themes surrounding sexual trauma. That perspective has deepened my understanding of how complicated shame, silence, sexuality, body connection, and reaching out for support can be. It has strengthened my belief that men deserve safe spaces where they can talk openly about experiences that are often kept hidden.
While men are a particular focus of my practice, I also welcome women experiencing trauma, sexuality, intimacy, and related concerns.

These concerns can show up in different ways. You may be dealing with intrusive memories or flashbacks, emotional overwhelm, numbness, dissociation, difficulty trusting, relationship difficulties, changes in sexual desire, discomfort during intimacy, or feeling disconnected from your body.
You don't need to identify with a particular diagnosis or symptom list to seek support.

Valérie Boisvert, M.Ed., RP's Therapy Modalities for Sexual Trauma
EMDR Therapy
EMDR is a trauma-focused approach that can help process distressing memories and experiences that continue to affect how you feel, think, or respond in the present.
IFS & Parts Work
IFS (Internal Family Systems) offers a compassionate way to understand the different parts of yourself and the protective patterns that may have developed through difficult experiences.
Sex Therapy
Sex therapy provides a confidential space to explore sexuality, intimacy, desire, arousal, orgasm, body image, boundaries, sexual confidence, and feeling safe and present during intimacy.
For men who have experienced sexual trauma, sex therapy can also provide space to explore how past experiences may have affected your relationship with sex, pleasure, your body, and intimate relationships.

Valérie Boisvert, M.Ed., RP's Approach to Therapy
My approach is warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed. I believe therapy should be a place where you can explore difficult experiences without pressure to move faster than you are ready for.
You are always in control of what you choose to share. You don't have to tell your entire story at once, and you don't need to know exactly what you need from therapy before we begin.
I integrate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and IFS (Internal Family Systems), depending on your needs, goals, and comfort level. I also offer sex therapy when trauma has affected sexuality, intimacy, sexual well-being, or your relationship with your body.
My goal is not simply to help you understand what happened. It is to help you understand how those experiences may still be affecting you today and create space for greater safety, self-trust, connection, confidence, and choice.

What I Believe About Psychotherapy
I believe therapy should be a space where every part of you is welcome.
You don't have to minimize what happened, have everything figured out, or know exactly where to start. Therapy can be a place to slow down, understand yourself more deeply, and develop a different relationship with the thoughts, emotions, reactions, and patterns that have been affecting your life.
My hope is that therapy can help you move toward greater safety, choice, self-understanding, resilience, self-compassion, and authenticity.
For me, growth does not mean becoming someone different. It means creating more room to be yourself beyond the experiences that shaped you.
A Space to Begin at Your Own Pace
You don't have to know whether therapy, EMDR, IFS, or sex therapy is the right starting point.
We can talk about what brings you in, what you're hoping for, and what approach might make the most sense for you. Therapy is collaborative, and we can adjust the pace and approach as your needs become clearer.
I offer a free 20-minute virtual consultation so you can ask questions and get a sense of whether we might be a good fit.
